Do you have a team or a group?

Is your team currently struggling to get along with each other?

If you are looking for solutions to help increase the unity on your team and their effectiveness, you are in the right place! Having led more than ten teams over the past 15 years, I will be the first to tell you that sometimes you have to CREATE the perfect team.

Yes, we would love that perfect scenario where we are hired for a leadership position and everything goes perfect from day one, but that is not reality. Did that happen with my first team? – “Yes”. Was I fortunate enough to have it happen with my second team? – that would be a huge “NO”.

Fortunately, I was able to learn and acquire the leadership skills to move my second team from a dysfunctional team, into a highly productive and cohesive team. That is why I started Simply Unique Coaching, because I want to help other leaders grow into the best versions of themselves.

So even if you don’t have the perfect team today, just know that they can become an amazing team in the future. In a few weeks I am reopening enrollment for the 90 Day Leadership Boot Camp. (If you would like to learn more about our 90 Day Leadership Boot Camp click HERE. )

3 Tips on Building a Team

Tip #1 Create an environment for your team to thrive.

Establish group norms by determining what is both acceptable and unacceptable for your team. Carry yourself consistently as a leader, as predictability in your behavior will help your team feel more comfortable. Ensure that employees feel at ease and that they are aware of what they need to do to be successful.

Tip #2 Determine what skills your team needs to develop most

Identify the skills that your team needs the most. Do they need to work on conflict resolution skills, do they need to have more cohesive relationships with each other, do they need to learn how to communicate better? Whichever area they need to develop the most is the one that you should focus on first.

Ensure that you also hire the right people on your team and that you backfill any openings with the right new hire employees.

Tip #3 Encourage your team to focus on the mission.

Ensure that employees are clear on the reason that the company exists, and on their role and responsibilities within the company. Ensure that employees know their personal goals along with how to measure success. Celebrate employee successes and have a plan in place to support employees who need additional assistance to get back on track.
